The tarantella is a dance like no other. Invented, it is said, to cure tarantula bites, in southern Italy.

For almost half a century, the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino has defended and illustrated the musical tradition of Puglia dedicated to the dance of the pizzica, the frenetic tarantella of Salento.



The intoxicating rhythms of this musical tradition lead to a state of trance into which almost 100,000 people enter each year, who come to play and dance all night long during the popular gathering of the Notte della Taranta .



This septet perpetuates with passion and bravery the fervor and the obsessive rhythms that run through the tarantellas. Interpreting amorous ballads and social songs with the exhilarating sounds of the tamburello, the Canzoniere transcends the universe of popular music from southern Italy.

La tarentelle est une danse pas comme les autres. Inventée, dit-on, pour guérir des piqûres de tarentules, dans le sud de l’Italie.

Depuis près d’un demi-siècle, le Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino défend et illustre la tradition musicale des Pouilles dédiée à la danse de la pizzica, la tarentelle frénétique du Salento.



Les rythmes enivrants de cette tradition musicale entraînent un état de transe dans lequel entrent, chaque année, près de 100 000 personnes venues jouer et danser toute la nuit lors du rassemblement populaire de la Notte della Taranta.



Ce septuor perpétue avec passion et bra­voure la ferveur et les rythmes obsession­­nels qui traversent les tarentelles. Interprétant des ballades amoureuses et des chants sociaux aux sons grisants du tamburello, le Canzoniere transcende l’univers des musiques populaires de l’Italie méridionale.
