 The story narrates the unfortunate romance between Carmen and Don José.  She is a gypsy, a cigarette maker, a smuggler, a rebel, free and irreverent;  he was military, reserved, content, devoted to his mother and to the military order.  The story moves from seduction to conflict and the predictable fatal outcome between two incompatible lives.
