Begun in 1791, the Requiem Mass in D minor is one of the last works Mozart worked on before his death. Commissioned by an unknown person, who preferred to remain anonymous, the musician devoted himself carefully to the realization of the piece, a process that was cut short by illness . It is said that, weak and suffering, the composer insisted on dictating to his disciple, Franz Xaver Süssmayr, some sections of the work and that, when he was dying, he gave this musician instructions to finish it. Indeed, although Mozart managed to fully complete only one of the sections of the mass , the RequiemIt has become one of the most popular and recognized compositions of his entire repertoire , being programmed year after year and frequently used in film and television.
