In order to avert the impending bankruptcy of his fatherland Pontevedro, the baron Mirko Zeta decided to marry the poor and fun-loving embassy secretary Count Danilo to the rich and equally merry widow Hanna Glawari. Above all, however, he accelerates, wants to have endless fun and doesn't even think about marrying Hanna. Because he had to do without her once before, when she was still a simple girl from the people and Danilo's family resisted a marriage. With subtle hints and clear ambiguities, the courting couple floats through the amorous act, pays homage to local Balkan sounds, flirts in writing on women's fans ...

“The Merry Widow” is probably Franz Lehár's most famous work and one of the most successful operettas of all time. Evergreens like “Lips are silent”, “I'll go to Maxim” and “Yes, studying women is difficult” make for an entertaining evening. Lehár holds up a comedic, erotically charged mirror in front of the money-fixated society of his time.
