Thomas Søndergård directs the Royal Chapel through ecstatic moments and doomsday atmosphere and opera director John Fulljames directs perhaps the most famous of the four operas in Wagner's monumental musical drama, The Ring of the Nibelung . Valkyrie is staged in a timeless world where natural disasters and the collapse of democracy are looming. The young British designer Tom Scutt creates a simple and aesthetic space in which the story of power and the actions of the gods and humans unfold. Valkyrie treats themes such as incestuous love between siblings, the pain of losing a son and the frustration of having to reject a daughter who has otherwise shown pure fatherly admiration. The Royal Opera's own powerful Wagner star Ann Petersen is Sieglinde, and Trine Møller, who has broken through strongly as a Wagner singer, sings Brünnhilde.
