The Magic Flute (1791) is Mozart's last and most beloved creation for musical theater. Written in the form of a singspiel - that is, a play with singing, where vocal numbers alternate with playful conversational dialogues - it was intended for the folk theater and was commissioned by the composer by the director of this theater and his old friend Emanuel Schikaneder. The premiere was a huge success, and only on the first stage the opera withstood a record number of performances (223), then began its victorious march through the musical theaters of Europe, and subsequently the world.

What is the secret of The Magic Flute's enduring popularity? This is a wonderful, kind fairy tale, equally intended for both children and adults. Her sublime philosophy sings of the ideals of equality and brotherhood, faith in the moral perfection of man and the ultimate triumph of love, light and reason - although the happy union of two pairs of lovers is not complete without the help of magical powers. At the same time, fairy-tale characters take on the characters of real people, embodied with humor, accurate life observations and bright household touches.

The enduring success of the performances of the famous French director Alain Maratre, who also staged Prokofiev's opera The Love for Three Oranges on the Primorsky Stage, was called the "Maratre effect": both the public and the performers invariably like his works.

The Magic Flute is an incredibly fun, dynamic and inventive performance. Its main advantages include interactivity: throughout the evening, the artists constantly communicate with the audience and involve them in participating in the production. It is ideal for the first introduction of a child to opera, also because it is in Russian. Children will undoubtedly appreciate the funny tricks of the bird-catcher Papageno and the enchanting sound of the bells, the picturesque scene of the appearance of the Queen of the Night with the famous aria and the colorful dolls of oriental characters. “I want my performance to become a holiday for the public,” is the director’s creative credo. And in combination with the ingenious music of Mozart, good mood and pleasure are guaranteed!

«Волшебная флейта» (1791) — последнее и самое любимое творение Моцарта для музыкального театра. Написанное в форме зингшпиля — то есть, пьесы с пением, где вокальные номера чередуются с игровыми разговорными диалогами, — оно предназначалось для народного театра и было заказано композитору директором этого театра и его старым другом Эмануэлем Шиканедером. Премьере сопутствовал огромный успех, и только на первой сцене опера выдержала рекордное количество представлений (223), затем начала своё победное шествие по музыкальным театрам Европы, а впоследствии — и мира.

В чём секрет неувядающей популярности «Волшебной флейты»? Это — прекрасная добрая сказка, в равной мере предназначенная и детям, и взрослым. Её возвышенная философия воспевает идеалы равенства и братства, веру в нравственное совершенствование человека и конечное торжество любви, света и разума — хотя счастливое соединение двух пар влюблённых не обходится без помощи магических сил. Непреходящий успех спектаклей известного французского режиссера Алена Маратра, осуществившего на Приморской сцене также постановку оперы Прокофьева «Любовь к трём апельсинам», прозвали «эффектом Маратра»: его работы неизменно нравятся как публике, так и самим исполнителям.

«Волшебная флейта» — невероятно весёлый, динамичный и изобретательный спектакль. К числу главных его достоинств можно отнести интерактивность: на протяжении вечера артисты постоянно общаются со зрителями и вовлекают их в участие в постановке.
