Tamino accepts the order from the Queen of the Night to free her kidnapped daughter Pamina. As a thank you, Tamino is to marry Pamina, with whose picture he has fallen in love. Accompanied by the whimsical bird catcher Papageno, who is also looking for a bride, Tamino makes his way to Prince Sarastro, the kidnapper. Tamino soon found his beloved and is loved again. But Sarastro thwarts the escape. However, the prince turns out to be not the violent villain described by the queen, but a wise ruler. He predicts that Pamina and Tamino are made for each other. Instead of punishing the two for attempting to escape, Sarastro puts trials on them. They should make sacrifices and survive dangers of death. Pass the exams Sarastro would like to include her in the circle of his initiates. The Queen of the Night sees herself betrayed and demands that Pamina kill Sarastro. But Pamina has now also gained confidence in Sarastro. Tamino faces the trials with his companion Papageno. He does not receive the highest orders, but his bride Papagena does. Tamino and Pamina, on the other hand, achieve their goal and become a couple.

The Magic Flute has been captivating people of all ages for 231 years . This musical theater fairy tale about the victory of love and wisdom over intrigue and power thinking appeals to audiences across the ages. You can get over the logical breaks or the very time-bound characterizations of the characters that the theater entrepreneur Emanuel Schikaneder put on paper. All the more so since the music lifts the magic fairy tale out of its time: Mozart unfolds the unbelievable richness of his imagination in order to let the fairy tale characters become human beings in song.

Tamino nimmt von der Königin der Nacht den Auftrag an, deren entführte Tochter Pamina zu befreien. Zum Dank dafür soll Tamino Pamina, in deren Bild er sich verliebt hat, zur Frau erhalten. In Begleitung des wunderlichen Vogelfängers Papageno, der auch auf der Suche nach einer Braut ist, macht sich Tamino auf den Weg zu Fürst Sarastro, dem Entführer. Bald schon hat Tamino seine Angebetete gefunden und wird wiedergeliebt. Doch Sarastro vereitelt die Flucht. Der Fürst erweist sich jedoch nicht als der von der Königin beschriebene gewalttätige Bösewicht, sondern als weiser Herrscher. Er sagt voraus, dass Pamina und Tamino füreinander bestimmt seien. Anstatt die beiden wegen ihres Fluchtversuchs zu bestrafen, erlegt Sarastro ihnen Prüfungen auf. Sie sollen etwa Verzicht leisten und Todesgefahren überstehen. Bestehen sie die Prüfungen, möchte Sarastro sie in den Kreis seiner Eingeweihten aufnehmen. Die Königin der Nacht sieht sich betrogen und verlangt von Pamina, Sarastro zu töten. Doch auch Pamina hat inzwischen Vertrauen zu Sarastro gefasst. Tamino stellt sich den Prüfungen mit seinem Begleiter Papageno. Dieser erlangt nicht die höchsten Weihen, doch immerhin seine Braut Papagena. Tamino und Pamina dagegen erreichen ihr Ziel und werden ein Paar.

Seit 231 Jahren reißt Die Zauberflöte Menschen jeden Alters hin und mit. Dieses Musiktheater-­Märchen über den Sieg der Liebe und der Weisheit über Intrige und Machtdenken spricht Zuschauer über die Jahrhunderte hinweg an. Da lassen sich die logischen Brüche oder die sehr zeitgebundenen Charakterisierungen der Figuren, die der Theaterunternehmer Emanuel Schikaneder aufs Papier brachte, verschmerzen. Um so mehr, als die Musik das Zaubermärchen aus seiner Zeit heraushebt: Mozart breitet den unglaublichen Reichtum seiner Fantasie aus, um die Märchenfiguren im Gesang zu fühlenden Menschen werden zu lassen.
