Als Johannes Brahms vor 155 Jahren, am Karfreitag 1868 im Bremer Dom erstmals das ‚Deutsche Requiem‘ zur Aufführung brachte, konnte er nicht ahnen, welchen Erfolg sein Werk haben sollte. Lobte die zeitgenössische Kritik das „grosse Meisterwerk edelster Gattung“ in höchsten Tönen, notierte Clara Schumann in ihrem Tagebuch, das Requiem des Freundes habe sie „ergriffen, wie noch nie eine Kirchenmusik“. Heute zählt das ‚Brahms-Requiem‘ zu den fundamentalen Meilensteinen der Musikgeschichte und begeistert Menschen auf der ganzen Welt. Mitten in der dunklen Jahreszeit musiziert die Berliner Domkantorei das Requiem zusammen mit dem nur wenig später entstandenen ‚Schicksalslied‘: Hier vertonte Brahms das berühmte gleichnamige Gedicht aus Friedrich Hölderlins Roman ‚Hyperion‘. Unter der großen Kuppel des Berliner Doms bringt Brahms im dunklen November die Herzen zum Leuchten. Es singt der Oratorienchor der Berliner Domkantorei und die Symphoniker des Brandenburgischen Staatsorchesters Frankfurt spielen unter Leitung von Domkantor Adrian Büttemeier.

When Johannes Brahms performed the 'German Requiem' for the first time 155 years ago, on Good Friday 1868 in Bremen Cathedral, he could not have imagined the success of his work. While contemporary critics praised the "great masterpiece of the noblest genre" in the highest tones, Clara Schumann noted in her diary that her friend's Requiem had "gripped her like never before church music". Today, the 'Brahms Requiem' is one of the fundamental milestones in music history and inspires people all over the world. In the middle of the dark season, the Berlin Cathedral Choir performs the Requiem together with the 'Schicksalslied', which was written only a short time later: Here Brahms set the famous poem of the same name from Friedrich Hölderlin's novel 'Hyperion' to music. Under the great dome of the Berlin Cathedral, Brahms makes hearts light up in the dark of November. The oratorio choir of the Berlin Cathedral Choir will sing and the symphony orchestra of the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt will play under the direction of cathedral cantor Adrian Büttemeier.
