Die Dritte Symphonie gilt als Anton Bruckners Schmerzenskind. Wie sehr der Komponist um sie gerungen hat, belegen die drei Fassungen dieses hymnischen, gleichzeitig geheimnisvollen Werks. François-Xavier Roth, Dirigent dieser Aufführung, hält die erste Fassung von 1873 für die gelungenste – weil sie den ursprünglichen Bruckner zeige. Roth hat sich als Bruckner-Interpret einen Namen gemacht, der nicht nur die Klanggewalt dieser Musik zum Klingen bringt, sondern auch ihre Nuancen. Außerdem auf dem Programm: die Uraufführung eines Werks des Slowenen Vito Žuraj.

The Third Symphony is considered Anton Bruckner’s problem child. The three versions of this hymn-like and at the same time mysterious work show how much the composer struggled with it. François-Xavier Roth, conductor of this performance, considers the first version from 1873 to be the most successful – because it shows the original Bruckner. Roth has made a name for himself as a Bruckner interpreter who not only brings the sonic power of this music to life, but also its nuances. The programme also includes the world premiere of a work by the Slovenian Vito Žuraj.
