In this concert, Tabita Berglund and the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra deal with two mythical, literary figures.
First up is Lemminkäinen, woman-loving adventurer in the Finnish national epic Kalevala. In Jean Sibelius's four tone poems, Lemminkäinen's escapades are depicted; first on the island of Saari, where he enjoys himself with the wives of men who are away at war, then in the underworld where he meets a black swan and is raised from the dead by his mother, and finally his return home in triumph!
Edvard Grieg's music for the escapades of the mythical Ibsen character Peer Gynt, we all have a relationship with. Despite the fact that the two artists disagreed on most things, the work is still equally valued and relevant.
