Claudius became king of Denmark after murdering his brother and marrying his widow. Hamlet, son of the deceased, loves the beautiful Ophelia, daughter of the chamberlain. He is visited by his father's ghost who orders him to avenge him. Simulating madness, he dismisses Ophelia who loses her reason and drowns. Hamlet kills Claudius and ascends the throne, inconsolable at having lost the one he loves.

Romanticism, eager for introspection and exploration of the human soul, rediscovers the one who exploited its depths with amazing clairvoyance, William Shakespeare. Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas, created at the Paris Opera in 1868, just a year after Verdi's impressive Don Carlos , powerfully illustrates the existential wanderings of the eponymous hero and places the overwhelming and sublime madness of Ophelia at the heart drama. Admittedly taking a great deal of liberty with the original text of The Eternal Bard , the librettists of Faustby Gounod managed to retain all its unity with the drama as well as a perfect match with the aesthetics of French grand opera. If the success was worldwide, we are only now rediscovering all the depths and subtleties of his subject.

The production we offer you is breathtaking. Through the alliance between traditional theater and video technologies, it offers us an immersion in the heart of the action. Exciting !
