Rossini's The Barber of Seville, composed in 1816, is the best-known and most played piece in the genre of comedy. Beaumarchais built a comedy trilogy around Figaro, the cunning barber, Count Almaviva, and Susanna, the count’s love, later his wife. The first comedy has already won several operas in the previous four decades, but their success has been overshadowed by Rossini’s work.

The excellent comedy characters and the action, which creates amusing situations, praise Beaumarchais ’stage talent, and the genius of the witty, energetic music, otherwise composed in just two or three weeks, Rossini. After the memorable productions in Szeged in recent decades, the presentation, which is a collaboration between several theaters, is now being staged in a new translation. The co-production provides an opportunity for opera singers, who perform less frequently in Szeged, to appear in Szeged in addition to the popular members of the cast.
