Spouses deprived of children end up adopting an orphan. The teenager will find an unexpected place in their home and in their hearts.
Between them, speech has become rare, the silences have become heavy, torn by the laughter of neighboring families. Crushed by a feeling of guilt, the woman has built an inner world that is disrupted as the waters of the river rise at the end of winter.

At the invitation of the Opéra Comique, Joël Pommerat wrote his first original libretto in 2019, choosing to adapt a short story by Zamiatine published in 1929. The stage writer shared with the composer Francesco Filidei, whose it was the second opera, the elaboration of the discourse and the performance time. From their close collaboration, from this composition carried out together for the stage, in complicity with musicians and singers, was born a new eloquence which translates the deaf density of the soul.

This unforgettable score of sounds and images directed by Joël Pommerat returns to the Opéra Comique under the baton of Leonhard Garms, at the head of intense and inhabited performers.

Des époux privés d’enfant finissent par adopter une orpheline. L’adolescente va se faire une place imprévue dans leur foyer et dans leurs cœurs.
Entre eux, la parole s’est raréfiée, les silences sont devenus pesants, déchirés par les rires des familles voisines. Écrasée par un sentiment de culpabilité, la femme s’est construit un monde intérieur qui se dérègle tandis qu’en cette fin d’hiver montent les eaux du fleuve.

À l’invitation de l’Opéra Comique, Joël Pommerat a écrit en 2019 son premier livret original, choisissant d’adapter une nouvelle de Zamiatine publiée en 1929. L’écrivain de plateau a partagé avec le compositeur Francesco Filidei, dont c’était le deuxième opéra, l’élaboration du discours et du temps du spectacle. De leur collaboration étroite, de cette composition menée à deux pour la scène, en complicité avec musiciens et chanteurs, est née une nouvelle éloquence qui traduit la densité sourde de l’âme.

Cette inoubliable partition de sons et d’images mise en scène par Joël Pommerat revient à l’Opéra Comique sous la baguette de Leonhard Garms, à la tête d’interprètes intenses et habités.
