Neben Jean-Philippe Rameau steht mit Claudio Monteverdi einer der »Geburtshelfer« der Gattung Oper im Mittelpunkt der BAROCKTAGE 2018. Die Musiktheaterproduktionen »L’Orfeo« und »L’incoronazione di Poppea« flankierend, wandeln vier Konzerte auf den Spuren Monteverdis, der seinen expressiven Opernstil auch in kleineren Formen, etwa seinen Madrigalen erprobte. Daneben schließt die Spurensuche Monteverdis Zeitgenossen in Italien ebenso mit ein wie den einen oder anderen Blick auf Kompositionen heutiger Komponisten, die von Monteverdi inspiriert sind.

In addition to Jean-Philippe Rameau, Claudio Monteverdi, one of the »midwifes« of the opera genre, is the focus of the BAROCKTAGE 2018. Flanking the music theater productions »L'Orfeo« and »L'incoronazione di Poppea«, four concerts follow in the footsteps of Monteverdi, his tried out an expressive operatic style in smaller forms, such as his madrigals. The search for traces of Monteverdi's contemporaries in Italy also includes one or two views of compositions by today's composers that were inspired by Monteverdi.
