La Boheme is the pinnacle of lyrical and psychological opera at the end of the 19th century. It inherits the traditions of Verdi's La Traviata and is dedicated, according to the musicologist Mikhail Muginstein to “the sad secret of life, revealed in the theme of the irreversibility of time”.

German director Philip Himmelmann is known to the Russian public for the Perm production of The Wedding of Figaro by Mozart (2012). In his interpretation of Puccini's opera, the action takes place in the sixties of the twentieth century in Paris. A legendary time that gave the world a new cinematography, new fashion, a new understanding of the role of personality in history.

The stage designer of the production is Raimund Bauer, known for his work with leading theaters and festivals in Europe. The costume designer is Katie Maurer, who has taken part in productions of the Salzburg Festival, RUHRtriennale and the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
