100 years ago a flu pandemic, the "Spanish flu", claimed millions of lives. The borders were closed, parts of public life paralyzed, most theaters closed. In this situation, Stravinsky and Ramuz conceived a musical theater with the most modest means.
As the sole actor, Michael Quast brings all the characters in the story to life with just his voice and the poorest props. And tells the story of the soldier's pact with the devil, of the life-giving power of music and how the bitter end cannot be prevented. A camera transmits the “poor theater” into its own visual world.
