L'italiana in Algeri -  (The Italian Girl in Algiers)

Composed by Rossini when he was just 21 years old and in just 18 days, “L'italiana in Algeri” was staged for the first time on May 22, 1813 in the Teatro San Benedetto in Venice. The plot is inspired by the story, which really happened, of a Milanese woman who was kidnapped by pirates at the beginning of the 19th century, then taken to a harem in Algiers and finally returned injured to Italy. Stendhal called this masterpiece "the perfection of the funny genre". How can we not agree with this judgment? And on the all-Italian primacy of the Rossinian genius, Michele Mirabella dwells in the director's notes, when he writes: "And it comes to mind that the most beautiful 'Italian' that the bey can deserve and obtain remains with him, and with and his people, be the Music ".
