The plot is based on the Greek myth of Orfeo and his beloved Eurydice and ranges from the highest happiness to the deepest sorrow. From the joy when they get married to the despair when Eurydice dies during the wedding festivities. We get to follow Orpheus' struggle to get down to the underworld in search of his dead wife. He finally finds her and wants to take her up to the living again. However, there is a condition, Orfeo must not meet Eurydice's gaze - if he does, she will remain in the underworld forever ...
