The premiere of Lucia di Lammermoor took place in 1835 in San Carlo, Neapolitan. In addition to his interest in Walter Scott's novel The Lammermoor Bride - by then more than once adapted to opera - the composer Donizetti had a personal interest in the plot: one of his ancestors, Donald Isett, was a Scotsman.

Despite the dizzying difficulties for the performers, and perhaps precisely because of them, this work by Donizetti is one of the most repertoire in the world. The first Lucia was the beautiful Fanny Takkinardi-Persiani. In the 19th and 20th centuries, all the legendary opera divas shone in this role: Adeline Patti, Lily Pons, Joan Sutherland, Maria Callas, Beverly Sills, Renata Scotto, Edita Gruberova. The heights of the transcendental coloratura of the heroine Donizetti are also storming the prima donnas of the 21st century. The tenors also strive to share their fame, for which the composer has reserved extremely high notes for the end of the opera

Lucia di Lammermoor has everything that is expected of an opera classics: wonderful, instantly memorable melodies, passionate love and equally passionate hatred against the backdrop of an old Scottish castle, a luxurious operatic prima donna and a tenor in love with her.
