 Premiere on November 9, 2019 in the Marguerre Hall

 The young Cio-Cio-San is sure.  Her beloved Benjamin F. Pinkerton will return to Japan to offer her and their son a better life in the land of opportunity by his side.
 Pinkerton has been gone for three years after being ordered home with the US occupation forces.  Three years full of longing and hope for Cio-Cio-San, called Madama Butterfly, which end in a deadly tragedy with the unfortunate reunion of their hopeful and the encounter with his new American wife.
 "Madama Butterfly" is "the most emotional opera I've ever written," according to the composer Puccini himself. After the premiere initially failed with drums and trumpets - the division of the acts was very clumsily chosen, the tenor was not a popular figure - Puccini revised his Work on the version that has enchanted us to this day and was to become Puccini's triumph over all doubters.

 The well-known director, actress and author Adriana Altaras will stage »Madama Butterfly« for the first time at the Heidelberg Theater and Orchestra.  General music director Elias Grandy takes over the musical direction of this popular opera.
