Diana Damrau’s ravishing performance of the title role of Massenet’s opera was one of the highlights of the Met’s 2014–15 season. She stars opposite Vittorio Grigolo, who brings his trademark passionate vocalism to the character of des Grieux, Manon’s ardent lover who ruins himself in a desperate attempt to save her. Russell Braun is Lescaut, Manon’s scheming brother, and Nicolas Testé sings des Grieux’s father. Emmanuel Villaume conducts Massenet’s melodious and elegant score.
