Medea – this myth fascinates to this day. Medea falls madly in love with Jason, the leader of the Argonauts, and will do anything for him: she betrays her homeland and even kills her brother. Jason and Medea start a family and have two sons. But the happiness of love does not last long: Jason separates from Medea because he wants to marry King Creon's daughter. Medea's inconsolable pain turns into an obsessive desire for revenge.

The figure of Medea offers plenty of material for discussion: To this day, she arouses both disgust and pity at the same time, revealing incomprehensible human depths. The composer Giovanni Pacini was also inspired by the world-famous material and created a captivating opera from it, which had an acclaimed premiere when it premiered in 1843. Die Figur der Medea bietet reichlich Stoff für Diskussionen: Sie erzeugt bis heute Abscheu und Mitleid zugleich, in ihr offenbaren sich kaum fassbare menschliche Untiefen. Auch der Komponist Giovanni Pacini war inspiriert von dem weltberühmten Stoff und kreierte daraus eine fesselnde Oper, die bei ihrer Uraufführung 1843 eine umjubelte Premiere erlebte.
