Missa Solemnis Ludwiga van Beethovena to obok Mszy h-moll Johanna Sebastiana Bacha oraz Requiem d-moll Wolfganga Amadeusa Mozarta jedno z największych dzieł muzyki sakralnej. Mimo że nie jest to jedyne opracowanie cyklu mszalnego autorstwa Beethovena, zajmuje ono wyjątkowe miejsce w jego twórczości.

Praca nad materiałem Mszy uroczystej trwała w latach 1819–1823,przypadła więc na ostatni etap twórczości Ludwiga van Beethovena. Był to czas, w którym powstały wielkie dzieła kompozytora, takie jak Sonata „Hammerklavier” czy słynna IX Symfonia. Missa Solemnis składa się z pięciu rozbudowanych części – Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus oraz Agnus Dei – opracowanych w sposób daleko wykraczający poza ramy tradycyjnego cyklu mszalnego. Obsada dzieła jest bardzo liczna, zostało bowiem przeznaczone na kwartet solistów, chór, a także wielką orkiestrę wspartą brzmieniem organów. Mszę zamówił u Beethovena jego przyjaciel, a zarazem uczeń i patron, arcyksiążę Rudolf Habsburg, który chciał jej wykonaniem uświetnić swoją intronizację na arcybiskupa Ołomuńca. Wydarzenie miało miejsce w 1819 roku, kompozytor nie zdążył jednak wypełnić rzeczonego zobowiązania, kreśląc ostatnie dźwięki w partyturze cztery lata później. Pełne wirtuozerii, efektowne brzmienie monumentalnej mszy wynagrodziło jednak oczekującym opóźnienie ze strony twórcy. Kompozycja nosi znamiona późnego stylu Beethovena, który operuje na jej materiale raptownymi kontrastami, wykorzystując zarówno dynamikę, tempo, jak i samą harmonię. Stosowane przez artystę zabiegi znacząco podkreśliły ekspresję nowatorskiego dzieła powstałego u progu romantyzmu. Podczas koncertu w ramach 57. Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Wratislavia Cantans poprowadzi je wybitny dyrygent Sir John Eliot Gardiner. Na estradzie Sali Głównej Narodowego Forum Muzyki maestro wystąpi wraz z solistami oraz zespołami Monteverdi Choir oraz Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, których jest zarazem dyrektorem artystycznym.

Ludwig van Beethoven 's Missa Solemnis is, next to Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem in D minor , one of the greatest works of sacred music. Although this is not the only arrangement of the mass cycle by Beethoven, it occupies a unique place in his oeuvre.

Work on the material for the Solemn Mass lasted in the years 1819–1823, so it coincided with the last stage of Ludwig van Beethoven's work. It was the time when the composer's great works were created, such as the"Hammerklavier" Sonata or the famous Ninth Symphony. Missa Solemnis consists of five extensive parts - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus andAgnus Dei– developed in a way that goes far beyond the framework of the traditional mass cycle. The cast of the work is very large, as it was intended for a quartet of soloists, a choir, and a large orchestra supported by the sound of the organ. The mass was ordered from Beethoven by his friend, student and patron, Archduke Rudolf Habsburg, who wanted to perform it to celebrate his enthronement as Archbishop of Olomouc. The event took place in 1819, but the composer did not manage to fulfill this obligation, drawing the last notes in the score four years later. Full of virtuosity, the spectacular sound of the monumental mass, however, made up for the delay on the part of the artist. The composition bears the hallmarks of Beethoven's late style, which uses its material with abrupt contrasts, using both dynamics, tempo and harmony itself. The treatments used by the artist significantly emphasized the expression of the innovative work created on the verge of Romanticism. During the concert as part of the 57th Wratislavia Cantans International Festival, they will be conducted by the outstanding conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner. On the stage of the Main Hall of the National Forum of Music, the maestro will perform together with soloists and ensembles of Monteverdi Choir and Orchester Révolutionnaire et Romantique, of which he is also the artistic director.
