Music and words brings us into contact with Mahler's rarefied world, which also brings with it the twentieth- century reflection on the ego , the dream world and reality. Mahler himself had resorted to psychoanalysis, the theory of the unconscious and his folds, with the help of Sigmund Freud after the discovery of a betrayal by his beloved wife Alma.

Death and the girl takes us back to a universe rich in cultural and historical references: this is the theme that since the Renaissance (pictorial and otherwise) has taken up the theme of death, imagining its personification that flatters a young woman with a thousand promises to bring her with itself and take it from life.

so it is narrated in Das Knaben Wunderhorn, the Lieder that Mahler writes adapting a cycle of poems by Clemens Brentano and Achim von Arnim, published between 1805 and 1808, in the period that marks the birth of Romanticism and therefore the beginning of a long path of gaze towards the past and towards one's inner world, sometimes made up of pain and unexpressed feelings.

Musica e parole ci porta a contatto con il mondo rarefatto di Mahler, che porta con sé anche la riflessione novecentesca intorno all’Io, al mondo onirico e della realtà. Lo stesso Mahler aveva fatto ricorso alla psicanalisi, la teoria dell’inconscio e delle sue pieghe, avvalendosi dell’aiuto di Sigmund Freud dopo la scoperta di un tradimento dell’amata moglie Alma.

La morte e la fanciulla ci riporta in un universi ricco di rimandi culturali e storici: questo è il tema che sin dal Rinascimento (pittorico e non) recupera il tema della morte, immaginando la sua personificazione che lusinga una giovane con mille promesse per portarla con sé e toglierla alla vita.

così si narra in Das Knaben Wunderhorn, i Lieder che Mahler scrive adattando un ciclo di poesie di Clemens Brentano e Achim von Arnim, pubblicate tra il 1805 e il 1808, nel periodo che segna la nascita del Romanticismo e quindi l’inizio di un lungo percorso di sguardo verso il passato e verso il proprio mondo interiore, fatto talvolta di dolore e sentimenti inespressi.
