Professor Higgins has a great idea: he could "cure" his chance acquaintance, the flower seller Eliza, of her bad dialect and make her a lady at the same time. In Colonel Pickering he finds a suitable opponent to whom he wants to prove his skills. Eliza, who doesn't even know what's happening to her, is condemned to language training and manners lessons in the professor's house and a few months later presented to the upper ten thousand. Already at the second attempt she convinces the high society in the most beautiful way, Higgins wins the bet and celebrates his success. But he didn't reckon with the innkeeper, because Eliza doesn't see her new identity as the goal of her wishes at all - and the whole process is highly questionable anyway ... My Fair Ladycould be a bitter commentary on the two-class society in general and the oppression of women in particular, if it hadn't long since become one of the most popular musicals thanks to its comedy and especially the melodies by Frederick Loewe ( I would have danced tonight, bring me punctually to the altar ). would have become at all, whose charm transports such messages in a much more subtle way
