All human beings are created equal.

Every monarch dreams of a great empire to build. But is it possible to create it with impunity on the ruins and graves and at the cost of the suffering of your loved ones? '

The Old Testament story of the capture of the Jewish people by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon stood at the beginning of Giuseppe Verdi's first truly successful opera. At the premiere, no one knew that Soler's libretto, rejected by the composer, would turn into an iconic work in Verdi's hands, but the music, full of immediacy, passion and temperament, rightly captivated the audience. And then there was the story of a nation longing for homeland and freedom, a story that still doesn't lose its power and relevance, and whose personification is the famous choir "Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate" (Fly, thought, on the golden wings). ).

However, like Verdi's other works,  Nabucco  also hides another more intimate layer about love and family relationships, which the composer portrayed with the feeling of a true playwright. It is no wonder that an opera full of magnificent choirs and captivating choirs has been one of the most popular titles in our repertoire for thirty-five years.

Die alttestamentliche Erzählung von der Verschleppung des jüdischen Volks durch den babylonischen König Nebukadnezar lieferte die Vorlage für die erste wirklich erfolgreiche Oper Giuseppe Verdis. Bei der Premiere konnte wohl niemand ahnen, dass sich das vom Komponisten zunächst abgelehnte Libretto Soleras in Verdis Händen zu einem ikonischen Werk verwandeln würde, doch die Musik voller Unmittelbarkeit, Inbrunst und Temperament begeisterte zu Recht das Publikum. Und dann war da noch das Sujet einer sich nach ihrer Heimat und ihrer Freiheit sehnenden Nation, ein Sujet, das nie seine Kraft und seine Aktualität verliert und dessen Verkörperung jener berühmte Chor „Va, pensiero, sull’ali dorate“ (Flieg, Gedanke, auf goldenen Schwingen) ist. Wie die übrigen Werke Verdis birgt jedoch auch Nabucco eine intimere Ebene, die von der Liebe und von familiären Beziehungen handelt, welche der Komponist mit dem Gefühl des echten Dramatikers zeichnete. So kann es nicht verwundern, dass diese Oper voller großartiger Chöre und mitreißender Gesangsauftritte schon seit fünfunddreißig Jahren zu den populärsten Titeln unseres Repertoires zählt.

Jak vysoká je cena za snahu být dobrým vládcem a vybodovat velkou říši? Základem Verdiho opery je starozákonní příběh o zajetí židovského národa babylonským králem Nabuchodonozorem a jejich touze po návratu do vlasti. Příběh, který stále neztrácí svou sílu a aktuálnost, a jehož zosob­něním je onen slavný sbor „Va, pensiero, sull’alidorate“ (Leť, myšlenko, na zlatých křídlech…). Stejně jako ostatní Verdiho díla i Nabucco však v sobě skrývá také další komornější vrstvu o lásce, dvou sestrách Feneně a Abigail a jejich střetu o lásku milovaného muže i otce. Verdi vše vykreslil s citem opravdového dramatika a hudba plná bezprostřednosti, vášně a temperamentu si právem dodnes podmaňuje publikum.
