Verdi achieved his first great success with this opera with a religious and patriotic theme. The triumph was immediate from its premiere at the Scala in Milan in 1842. Much of this success is due to the theme sung by the choir Va pensiero, which over time became one of the best known and most sung pieces in the history of opera . The spectacular nature of Nabucco, its setting in ancient Babylon and Jerusalem, and its theme inspired by the Bible, make it one of the favorite titles of the public around the world. Ópera 2001 brings us this production made with the Opera de Massy in France, with great soloists, a live orchestra and the Sicilian Lyric Choir.
