Μετά την επιτυχημένη του πρεμιέρα στο Πολιτιστικό Συνεδριακό Κέντρο Ηρακλείου τον Μάιο του 2022, Ο Βαφτιστικός του Θεόφραστου Σακελλαρίδη, η δημοφιλέστερη ελληνική οπερέτα, σε διασκευή, σκηνοθεσία και χορογραφία του Πέτρου Γάλλια, με τη σύμπραξη της Φιλαρμόνια Ορχήστρας Αθηνών και του Χορωδιακού Συνόλου Ηρακλείου και πλειάδας δημοφιλών λυρικών πρωταγωνιστών, συνεχίζει τη διαδρομή του στο ΠΣΚΗ με δύο ακόμα παραστάσεις. Ένα έργο-σταθμός για το ΠΣΚΗ, καθώς με αυτό εγκαινιάστηκε στην Αίθουσα «Ανδρέας και Μαρία Καλοκαιρινού» ο κύκλος της οπερέτας, χωροθετημένο μεταξύ πολεμικού μετώπου και του αστικού οίκου της αθηναϊκής Μπελ επόκ, που συνδυάζει την ξεκαρδιστική θεατρική πλοκή και τα πασίγνωστα τραγούδια που όλοι σιγοτραγουδάμε…

Πρόκειται για ένα έργο με συναρπαστική θεατρική πλοκή και ιδιαίτερα δημοφιλή τραγούδια, που αγαπήθηκαν πολύ και έμειναν ανεξίτηλα στην ιστορία της ελληνικής οπερέτας, όπως «Η καρδιά μου πονεί για σας», «Στο στόμα γλυκά φίλησέ με», «Τον παλιό εκείνο τον καιρό», «Ψηλά στο Μέτωπο» κ.ά. Πρόκειται όμως και για την πιο διαχρονική ελληνική οπερέτα στην ιστορία του είδους, αφού σχεδόν κατάφερε να σταθεί στην κορυφή, ανάμεσα σε όλες τις νεοελληνικές οπερέτες που έχουν γραφτεί και ανέβει στις εγχώριες σκηνές. Το λιμπρέτο του Βαφτιστικού υπογράφει ο ίδιος ο συνθέτης, και χρονικά η οπερέτα εντάσσεται στην πρώτη δημιουργική περίοδο του Σακελλαρίδη, η οποία χαρακτηρίζεται από τη σύνδεσή του με τα ευρωπαϊκά, ειδικότερα τα βιεννέζικα, πρότυπα της οπερετικής παραγωγής.

Το κωμικό τρίπρακτο έργο βασίζεται στη γαλλική φάρσα των C. Maurice Hennequin, Pierre Veber και Henri de Gorsse Η κυρία και ο βαφτιστικός της [Madame et son filleul] (Παρίσι, Palais Royal, 12.9.1916). Η πρώτη παγκόσμια εκτέλεσή του τοποθετείται στις 18 Ιουλίου 1918, στο θέατρο Παπαϊωάννου στην Αθήνα, από τον θίασο του Γιάννη Παπαϊωάννου. Ένα χρόνο πριν, στις 6 Σεπτεμβρίου 1917 είχε παρουσιαστεί το γαλλικό έργο, με τίτλο Ο βαφτισιμιός της κυρίας, σε μετάφραση του Σπύρου Μελά, από τον θίασο της Κυβέλης. Από την πρώτη παρουσίασή της η θρυλική, αειθαλής οπερέτα του Σακελλαρίδη γνώρισε μεγάλη επιτυχία με πολυάριθμες παραστάσεις αλλά και σειρά επανεκτελέσεων, ενώ διασκευάστηκε μέχρι και για τον κινηματογράφο, με την υπογραφή της σκηνοθέτιδας Μαρίας Πλυτά (1952).

Ο σκηνικός χρόνος του Βαφτιστικού είναι η ύστατη επιστράτευση κατά την περίοδο του Α’ Παγκοσμίου πολέμου και η νικηφόρα πορεία των ελληνικών στρατευμάτων. Το έργο θεματοποιεί τον έρωτα στο περιβάλλον αυτής της πολεμικής περιόδου και αποτυπώνει ανθρώπινους χαρακτηρολογικούς τύπους από τη νεοελληνική «πινακοθήκη» των αρχών του 20ού αιώνα, με τα χαρακτηριστικά «βαπτιστικά» ονόματα Βιβίκα, Ζαχαρούλης, Κική, συνδυάζοντας με ιδιαίτερη επιτυχία τις παρεξηγήσεις, τις απροσδόκητες τροπές και τις κωμικές καταστάσεις. Με τον Βαφτιστικό ο Σακελλαρίδης θα σημάνει και το τέλος του είδους της πολεμικής οπερέτας που ο ίδιος εγκαινίασε με το Σία κι αράξαμε (1909), προτού το είδος της επιθεώρησης παραλάβει από την οπερέτα τη σκυτάλη να συνδέει τη θεματολογία της με τα πολεμικά και τα πολιτικά γεγονότα και η ίδια να επικεντρωθεί στην ηθογραφία και στα αστικά σαλόνια.

Η μουσική σύνθεση του Βαφτιστικού επηρεασμένη από τη βιεννέζικη οπερέτα, συνδυάζει την ανώδυνη σάτιρα και την επικαιρότητα του πολέμου και των ηθών με μια μουσική κυρίως ρομαντική, ακόμη και με επιρροές από μοτίβα της Ανατολής, που αποδίδει την ερωτική ατμόσφαιρα της αθηναϊκής Μπελ Επόκ. Ο Θεόφραστος Σακελλαρίδης εστιάζει στη νοηματική και μουσική συνέχεια και επιλέγει να μη διαρθρώνει το έργο του με παράθεση απλώς ευχάριστων μελωδικών γραμμών, μουσικών μοτίβων και ολόκληρων τραγουδιστικών έργων, που θα ήταν αρκετά για την ικανοποίηση του φιλοθεάμονος κοινού, το οποίο θα ήθελε πρόσκαιρα να απομακρυνθεί νοερά από τον διαρκή και αδυσώπητο πόλεμο. Τα τραγούδια του Βαφτιστικού αποτελούν μελωδίες που τραγουδιούνται ακόμη και σήμερα, έχοντας ταυτιστεί με την ίδια την ιστορία της ελληνικής οπερέτας.

Τα πανέμορφα τραγούδια, οι γλυκιές μελωδίες και οι χοροί, οι πόλκες, τα τσιγγάνικα τανγκό, αλλά και οι αμανέδες του Βαπτιστικού, μαζί με τα «εξωτικά» και ουτοπικά δοσμένα πεδία μαχών, τις προγραμματισμένες και απρογραμμάτιστες πλαστοπροσωπίες, τα ερωτικά κίνητρα και τα αθώα ξελογιάσματα, τις κοινωνικές αντιθέσεις με τους «κουραμπιέδες» και τους «ήρωες», τις διαβολικές συμπτώσεις, τους ευφυείς νομικοφανείς χειρισμούς, τις παρεξηγήσεις και τα απρόοπτα, συνυπάρχουν στη νέα παραγωγή του Πολιτιστικού Συνεδριακού Κέντρου Ηρακλείου. Σε μουσική διεύθυνση του Γιάννη Πρωτόπαπα, σε διασκευή και σκηνοθεσία του Πέτρου Γάλλια, και με ένα θίασο ιδανικών για τους ρόλους λυρικών ερμηνευτών, ο Βαφτιστικός του Θεόφραστου Σακελλαρίδη έρχεται στην Αίθουσα «Ανδρέας και Μαρία Καλοκαιρινού» του Πολιτιστικού Συνεδριακού Κέντρου Ηρακλείου για να μας ξυπνήσει ξανά ενθουσιασμό και νοσταλγία γι’ αυτό το έργο-σταθμό στην ιστορία της ελληνικής οπερέτας αλλά και για την εποχή του Μεγαλοϊδεατισμού αλλά και για να καταστήσει εκ νέου την οπερέτα ένα είδος γνήσιο ως προς τα κίνητρά του να διασκεδάζει και να ψυχαγωγεί σε καιρούς χαλεπούς.

After its successful premiere at the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion in May 2022, Theophrastus Sakellaridis' The Baptist, the most popular Greek operetta, adapted, directed and choreographed by Petros Gallias, with the collaboration of the Athens Philharmonic Orchestra and the Heraklion Choral Ensemble and more of popular lyrical protagonists, continues its journey at PSKI with two more performances. A milestone project for the PSKI, as with it the cycle of operetta was inaugurated in the "Andreas and Maria Kalokairinou" Hall, set between a war front and the bourgeois house of the Athenian Belle Epoque, which combines the hilarious theatrical plot and the well-known songs that everyone we sing softly...

It is a play with an exciting theatrical plot and particularly popular songs, which were loved a lot and remained indelible in the history of Greek operetta, such as "My heart aches for you", "Kiss me sweetly on the mouth", "The old days". , "High on the Front" etc. However, it is also the most timeless Greek operetta in the history of the genre, since it almost managed to stand at the top, among all the modern Greek operettas that have been written and performed on domestic stages. The libretto of Baptistiki is signed by the composer himself, and chronologically the operetta belongs to Sakellaridis' first creative period, which is characterized by his connection with European, especially Viennese, standards of opera production.

The comic three-act play is based on the French farce by C. Maurice Hennequin, Pierre Veber and Henri de Gorsse Madame et son filleul [Madame et son filleul] (Paris, Palais Royal, 12.9.1916). Its first world performance was staged on July 18, 1918, at the Papaioannou Theater in Athens, by the troupe of Yiannis Papaioannou. A year before, on September 6, 1917, the French play entitled The Baptism of the Lady, translated by Spyros Melas, was presented by the troupe of Kyveli. From its first presentation, the legendary, evergreen operetta by Sakellaridis was a great success with numerous performances and a series of re-performances, while it was even adapted for the cinema, with the signature of the director Maria Plytas (1952).

Stage timeof the Baptistery is the final mobilization during the First World War and the victorious march of the Greek troops. The work thematizes love in the environment of this war period and captures human characteristic types from the modern Greek "art gallery" of the early 20th century, with the characteristic "baptism" names Vivika, Zacharoulis, Kiki, combining with particular success the misunderstandings, the unexpected tropes and comedic situations. With The Baptist, Sakellaridis will mark the end of the genre of war operetta that he himself inaugurated with Sia ki araxame (1909), before the genre of revue takes over from the operetta to connect its themes with war and politics events and herself to focus on ethnography and urban salons.

The musical composition of the Baptistery, influenced by the Viennese operetta, combines the painless satire and topicality of war and morals with a music mainly romantic, even influenced by Eastern motifs, which conveys the romantic atmosphere of the Athenian Belle Epoque. Theofrastos Sakellaridis focuses on the semantic and musical continuity and chooses not to structure his work by simply quoting pleasant melodic lines, musical motifs and entire singing works, which would be enough to satisfy the adoring audience, who would like to temporarily mentally distance themselves from the constant and relentless war. The songs of the Baptist are melodies that are still sung today, having been identified with the very history of Greek operetta.

The beautiful songs, the sweet melodies and the dances, the polkas, the gypsy tangos, but also the amanades of the Baptistery, together with the "exotic" and utopian given battlefields, the planned and unplanned impersonations, the amorous motives and the innocent dalliances , the social contrasts with the "villains" and the "heroes", diabolical coincidences, intelligent legal manipulations, misunderstandings and the unexpected, coexist in the new production of the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion.
