The operetta premiered on October 28, 1858 in Paris and was unfortunately not accepted as the author expected. The audience enjoyed Offenbach's charming melodies, costumes and scene, but the sensation did not take place. The miracle happened after the publication of criticism in the press, which aroused people's curiosity, and the work then experienced endless success. Orpheus literally flew around the world. The basic essence of Offenbach's parody is the caricature of an ancient legend, while the main effect is not based on verbal jokes, but is based on comic situations that arise from the clash of different characters. The author makes fun of the recognized rules of any time. That is why current aspects of public events can be found in Orpheus in the underworld. The most famous musical number is the so-called Infernal Cancan, in the original Galop infernal, from the second act. In addition, there are many musical quotations: the French national anthem,
