“The whole world is a theater, and the people in it are actors.” These Shakespearean words became the epigraph to Yuri Alexandrov’s production. The director offers an original version of one of the most popular operatic works, which invariably excites human hearts with the poignancy of the love drama and the bright emotionality of the music. The real tragic story of how the director of a theater troupe killed his wife out of jealousy (a case from judicial practice that Leoncavallo immortalized with his opera) received a metaphorical interpretation in Alexandrov’s performance. Using the images and means of commedia dell'arte (the oldest theatrical form), the director created a timeless story about the life of the theater. In it, stage convention and off-stage reality are so inextricably intertwined that they cannot be separated from each other. The genres of comedy and tragedy in this performance parody each other, the everyday life of the setting in the first act gives way to wild colors and exquisitely stylized costumes in the second (production designer Vyacheslav Okunev). Theatricality as a principle of existence dominates not only on stage, but also spills out into the auditorium.

Only in the Theatre does the physical suffering of the Artist retreat before spiritual ecstasy, reviving, like a Phoenix bird from the ashes, spreading its wings over thousands of enthusiastic eyes...

In the Theatre, the Artist, living dozens, hundreds of roles, becomes a voluntary donor, giving his spiritual strength, which real life cannot fill...

Only the Theatre, killing monotonous everyday life with a terrible emptiness, can manifest a miracle and instantly become a dazzling altar, on which a jubilant Artist will enthuse his divine Talent and immortal Soul...

Finally, only in the Theatre wealth, fame, awards mean nothing, and only death reveals the real face of the Actor - lonely and defenseless...

«Весь мир – театр, и люди в нем - актеры…» - эти шекспировские слова стали эпиграфом к постановке народного артиста России  Юрия Александрова. Режиссер предлагает оригинальную версию одного из самых популярных оперных произведений, неизменно волнующего человеческие сердца остротой любовной драмы и яркой эмоциональностью музыки. Реальная трагическая история о том, как директор театральной труппы убил свою жену на почве ревности (случай из судебной практики, который Леонкавалло обессмертил своей оперой), получила в спектакле Александрова метафорическое толкование. С помощью привлечения образов и средств комедии дель арте (старейшей театральной формы), режиссер создал вневременную историю о жизни театра. В ней сценическая условность и внесценическая реальность столь неразрывно переплетены, что их невозможно отделить друг от друга. Жанры комедии и трагедии в этом спектакле пародируют друг друга, будничность обстановки в первом действии сменяется неистовыми красками и изысканно стилизованными костюмами во втором (художник-постановщик народный художник России Вячеслав Окунев). Театральность как принцип существования господствует не только на сцене, но и выплескивается в зрительный зал.

在剧院里，扮演着几十、几百个角色的艺术家成为自愿捐赠者，给予他现实生活无法满足的精神力量……

唯有剧场，以可怕的空虚扼杀单调的日常生活，才能显出奇迹，瞬间化作耀眼的祭坛，让兴高采烈的艺术家在其上倾注他的天分和不朽的灵魂……

最后，只有在剧院里，财富、名声、奖项什么都不是，只有死亡才能显露出演员的真面目——孤独、手无寸铁……
