Libretto by Cesare Sterbini based on the comedy “The Barber of Seville, or a Vain Precaution” by Pierre Beaumarchais, as revised by the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater

The opera was written in 1816, this stage version was staged in Perm in 2010

One of Rossini's most frequently performed operas. The libretto is based on a story borrowed from the satirical playwright Beaumarchais about Count Almaviva and the resourceful barber Figaro, who helps his patron marry the lovely Rosina despite the machinations of her voluptuous guardian. In the director's version by Valeria Borodina, the plot of the opera is removed from the time it was written and transposed into a modern key. Using the classic technique of “theater within a theater,” the director uses the collisions of the 18th-century libretto to tell about the theater of our era.
