Heel heel heel lang geleden…

(Of misschien wel nog langer dan lang geleden)

Was er een straat waarin twee families woonden… En deze twee families hadden al zo lang ruzie… Dat niemand meer wist waar die ruzie eigenlijk over ging… 

In dit Kinderconcert maken we kennis met Romeo en Julia, het beroemdste liefdespaar aller tijden. Shakespeare schreef ooit een toneelstuk over die twee, dat niet goed afliep. De componist Tsjaikovski las het, en had zo veel medelijden met Romeo en Julia, dat hij de mooiste muziek voor ze componeerde die hij kon bedenken. 

Het Concertgebouworkest vertelt met Tsjaikovski’s muziek en twee acteurs een eigen versie van het eeuwenoude verhaal voor een jong publiek. Daarin kiezen Romeo en Julia zelf voor een nieuwe afloop…

A very, very long time ago…

(Or maybe even longer than a long time ago)

Was there a street where two families lived... And these two families had been fighting for so long... That no one knew what that fight was about... 

In this Children's Concert we get to know Romeo and Juliet, the most famous love couple of all time. Shakespeare once wrote a play about those two, which didn't end well. The composer Tchaikovsky read it and felt so sorry for Romeo and Juliet that he composed the most beautiful music for them that he could think of. 

With Tchaikovsky's music and two actors, the Concertgebouw Orchestra tells its own version of the age-old story for a young audience. Romeo and Juliet choose a new ending themselves…
