"Proces" Philipa Glassa - trailer

Józef K. – nam współczesny. Zamożny, wykształcony, osiągnął zawodowy i towarzyski sukces. A jednak coś go dręczy. Przegląda się w rzeczywistości jak w lustrze i ta rzeczywistość go mierzi. Byle jakie relacje, byle jacy ludzie. On sam przed sobą w tym lustrze – także czuje się byle jaki. I nie ma z tej sytuacji ucieczki. Czuje się schwytany. Czuje się winny... 

Metaforę samotności i słabości człowieka, zawartą w mrocznej powieści Franza Kafki, znakomicie wykorzystał w swojej kameralnej operze słynny współczesny kompozytor Philip Glass, nominowany do Oscara i zdobywca Złotego Globu. Premiera Procesu odbyła się w Royal Opera House w Londynie w 2014 roku w koprodukcji z Music Theatre Wales. Libretto napisał wybitny reżyser i scenarzysta, zdobywca Oscara, Christopher Hampton. Muzykę w Procesie charakteryzuje ogromne napięcie. Philip Glass, oszczędny w środkach muzycznego przekazu, stosuje powtórzenia, rytmy wzmagające poczucie strachu i absurdu: "Myślę o swoich kameralnych operach jak o bombach neutronowych – małe, ale z potężną siłą rażenia".

(...) Autor libretta, Christopher Hampton, rozpisał historię Józefa K. na gęsty dialog. Akcja rozgrywa się o wiele bardziej w słowach niż fabularnej dramaturgii, która jest w gruncie rzeczy kolażem scen. Jest to zresztą zgodne z samym zamysłem Kafki, który najpierw napisał dwie sceny: początkową i końcową, a reszta fabuły jest przecież sama w sobie czymś na kształt labiryntu. Kto zna muzykę Glassa, ten odnajdzie w „Procesie” atmosferę znaną choćby z filmowych „Godzin”. Jego – jak się zwykło określać – minimalistyczna muzyka, oszczędna, oparta na powtarzających się motywach rozpisanych na kilka instrumentów, tworzy sugestywny i miejscami dramatyczny sound designe, co bardzo dobrze rozumie kameralna orkiestra poprowadzona przez Jerzego Wołosiuka. Trzeba także podkreślić świetną rolę Christiana Oldenburga, niemieckiego barytona, jako Józefa K., na którego głosie i geście spoczął obowiązek uniesienia dramatycznej osi spektaklu. (...)

(…) Opera podąża za tokiem zdarzeń literackiego pierwowzoru, choć dokonano znaczącej ich interpretacji. „Proces", który doczekał się licznych adaptacji filmowych i teatralnych, bywa często odczytywany jako obraz bezdusznego systemu, w zderzeniu z którym niewinny człowiek nie ma najmniejszych szans. Historia, która przeorała Europę już po śmierci Kafki, udowodniła, jak trafna była diagnoza pisarza. Ale na „Proces" można spojrzeć inaczej. Skoro każdy może zostać oskarżony, to może każdy ma też w sobie własny trybunał, przed którym w pewnym momencie musi stanąć? A zatem wszyscy powinniśmy poddać się takiemu osądowi. Tę uniwersalną wymowę „Procesu" – jakże aktualną dla nas w obecnym czasie – wzmocniła szczecińska inscenizacja. (...)

To jedna z najbardziej spektakularnych produkcji Opery na Zamku ostatnich lat. Dzieło Franza Kafki jest powieścią tak dobrze znaną, że operą „Proces” skomponowaną przez Philipa Glassa, zainteresowali się nie tylko miłośnicy muzyki, ale także czytelnicy. Moim zdaniem także oni wyjdą z tego spektaklu co najmniej zaintrygowani... (...)

Józef K. - contemporary to us. Wealthy, educated, he achieved professional and social success. Yet something is bothering him. He looks at himself like in a mirror and this reality disgusts him. Any kind of relationship, any kind of people. He is in front of himself in this mirror - he also feels sloppy. And there is no escaping this situation. I feel captured. I feel guilty... 

The metaphor of loneliness and human weakness, contained in the dark novel by Franz Kafka, was perfectly used in his chamber opera by the famous contemporary composer Philip Glass, nominated for an Oscar and winner of the Golden Globe. The premiere  of The Trial  took place at the Royal Opera House in London in 2014 in co-production with the Music Theater Wales. The libretto was written by an outstanding director and screenwriter, Oscar winner, Christopher Hampton. The music in  the Process  is characterized by enormous tension. Philip Glass, economical in the means of musical communication, uses repetitions, rhythms that increase the feeling of fear and absurdity: "I think of my intimate operas as neutron bombs - small, but with a powerful impact."

(...) The author of the libretto, Christopher Hampton, wrote the story of Józef K. for a dense dialogue. The action takes place much more in words than in fictional dramaturgy, which is essentially a collage of scenes. This is in line with the idea of ​​Kafka, who first wrote two scenes: the opening and the ending, and the rest of the plot is in itself something like a labyrinth. Those who know Glass's music will find in "Trial" an atmosphere known, for example, from the film "Hours". His - as it is usually called - minimalist music, sparing, based on repeating motifs written for several instruments, creates a suggestive and sometimes dramatic sound design, which is very well understood by the chamber orchestra led by Jerzy Wołosiuk. It is also necessary to emphasize the great role of Christian Oldenburg, a German baritone, as Józef K., on whose voice and gesture the duty of lifting the dramatic axis of the performance rested. (...) The opera follows the course of the events of the literary original, although it has been interpreted significantly. "The Trial", which has received numerous film and theater adaptations, is often interpreted as an image of a soulless system against which an innocent man has no chance at all. The story, which plowed up Europe after Kafka's death, proved how accurate the writer's diagnosis was. But you can look at "The Process" differently. Since anyone can be accused, maybe everyone also has their own tribunal that they must face at some point? So we should all submit to that judgment. This universal meaning of the "Trial" - so relevant to us at the present time - was reinforced by the Szczecin staging. (...)

This is one of the most spectacular productions of the Castle Opera in recent years. The work of Franz Kafka is a novel so well known that the opera "The Process", composed by Philip Glass, attracted the attention not only of music lovers but also of readers. In my opinion, they will also come out of this show at least intrigued ... (...)
