There Shall Be No More Sea
Vocal / Song cycleConcert
With Sophie Michaux (voice), Adam Simon (voice+guitar+bass), Kai-Ching Chang (piano), Chris Voss (narrator+voice) Kathleen Raine's poem There Shall Be No More Sea was the inspiration for this Tiny Glass Tavern program, centered around the awe the Ocean provokes in us, humans. Its power and mystery have sparked wonder, fear, imagination, admiration, and grief in poets and musicians all over the world and throughout the centuries. We will explore these emotions while sharing music by Antonio Vivaldi, Rebecca Clarke, Cecil Cohen, Gabriel Fauré, Henry Purcell, Adam Simon, Jacques Brel, Folk songs from England and more. Short stories and poems will be woven into the music by our narrator Christopher Voss, and audience members should be prepared to join in on a sea shanty or two. Suggested donation: $10-30 Masks encouraged More about Tiny Glass Tavern: Tiny Glass Tavern is a cross-genre music ensemble that offers tastes of different styles of music to curious audiences in an intimate concert setting. Each of our eclectic constellation of musicians brings their different expertise to perform early, folk, romantic, pop, and new music to our audiences. Those styles are programmed side by side and shine in contrast with each other. With Tiny Glass Tavern, this joyful collaboration of artists includes the audience. We invite them to experience the infinite musical repertoire from within by leading singing workshops exploring the specific concert repertoire on the week of the performance, pre-concert sings, and/or audience participation. Our concerts and workshops will be a time to gather for a taste of something musical audiences may or may not know or like yet.
