Giacomo Puccini, by opening Toska's twentieth century, made opera closer to people with his then unusual, unique musical language and a thoroughly veristic message. Although it was closer to her some fifty years earlier, for example thanks to Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata, but there this closeness was mainly based on the libretto. There is something more here, in addition to the libretto, we have an emotional score that paints in our heads a picture of the Roman church of Sant'Andrea della Valle with a picture of the Marquise of Attavanti, the Scarpia palace or the courtyard of the Castel Sant'Angelo.

The work, which premiered 121 years ago (January 14, 1900), is in fact extremely realistic. The emotions and feelings that are present in the part of Floria Toska and the painter Mario Cavaradossi are shared by the audience. Extremely tight action (musically and theatrically) takes us to Rome in 1800. It is there - in the courtyard of the Castel Sant'Angelo - we witness an intrigue that turns out of love into a tragedy.
