An obsessive dream of love
Despite the brutality of the story, Turandot has become a crowd favorite. The ice-cold and ruthless princess and the man who wants to make her his own at all costs, appeal to the imagination of many – thanks to Puccini's incomparable music. Even those who have never heard of the opera know the tenor aria 'Nessun dorma', with the confident exclamation 'vincero!'.

 

HEART-POUNDING OPERA EXPERIENCE
After Tosca , this production is the second in the series of Puccini operas presented by chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti and director Barrie Kosky over the course of three years. Viotti is a great fan of Puccini, and therefore likes to delve into the challenging and rich score of Turandot with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the large choir of Dutch National Opera . On top of that a double singer cast with expressive and charismatic singers, a blood-curdling opera experience is guaranteed.

In his directing, Barrie Kosky steers clear of early twentieth-century orientalism. His Turandot is set in a dystopian fever dream, full of lust, desire and obsession. Kosky has a special talent for directing large groups of people down to the last detail. The Chorus of Dutch National Opera therefore has a leading role not only musically, but also scenically.
