Michel van der Aa is considered one of the outstanding Dutch composers of his generation. Characteristic of his works is not only the expressive power of his music, but also his sense of drama, which in the combination of sounds and stage situations regularly leads to impressive andhas led to suggestive results that testify to a special individuality. Again and again he has drawn attention to himself with compositions in which he has gone his own way with regard to the integration of technology into the musical process. Already in 1993 he founded a production company for performances of contemporary music. This went hand in hand with his many years of training and further education, first as a sound engineer, then in the classical guitar subject, and finally as a composer. Further studies in the areas of scenic writing and directing led him to the New York Film Academy, among others. His most recent stage works show him - as in the case of "Upload" - in a successful personal union as a composer as well as a film and stage director. Van der Aa's works are on the programs of the leading international festivals for new music, including Berlin, Donaueschingen, Paris, Warsaw and Los Angeles, to name just a few. From 2011 to 2017 he was resident composer at the Royal Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam, and in 2017 he was also composer in residence at the Lucerne Summer Festival.
