If our lives lost their natural boundaries, wouldn't they lose their meaning? That mysterious girl may know the answer. Four hundred years ago, Rudolf II, an emperor who dreamed of immortality, lived in Prague. So his alchemist prepared an elixir of life for him. The alchemist's 16-year-old daughter, who almost died as a result, tasted the first drink, but eventually made it and actually stopped aging. She wanders all over Europe and returns to Prague after three hundred years to find a recipe for her father's elixir and get a new dose that will extend her life by another 300 years ... A historical thriller by Karel Čapek served Janáček as a model for one of his strangest operas , which is now played for the SND Opera by the great German director Peter Konwitschny.
