The opera was written in 1878, this stage version will be presented for the first time in Perm in 2022 Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" will be the first opera premiere of the Perm Opera Theater and ballet in 2022. The production will be marked by a double debut: music director and conductor Mikhail Tatarnikov will perform for the first time at the Perm Opera, and stage director Vladislavs Nastavshevs will make his debut with his version of "lyrical scenes" on the big music stage Conductor Mikhail Tatarnikov has established himself as one of the leading specialists in the national operatic repertoire not only in Russia but also abroad. Last summer, Tatarnikov acted as musical director of a new production of The Maid of Pskov by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in London (stage director David Pountney, Grange Park Opera Festival), and his immediate creative plans include a production of Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades at the Dresden Opera The first opera production directed by Vladislavs Nastavshevs, The Pearl Seekers by Georges Bizet, first shown in December 2020 at the Chamber Stage of the Bolshoi Theater, was recognized by the press as one of the central events of the last theater season and was nominated for the Golden Mask National Theater Award in eight nominations. After graduating from the workshop of Lev Dodin at the St. Petersburg Academy of Theater Arts and receiving a directing education at the College of Art and Design. St. Martin, Nastavševs staged his first works on the dramatic stage in London and Riga. For the Russian public, it was opened by the capital's Gogol Center.
