AGAINST THE WALL

Opera by Ludger Vollmer based on the film of the same name by Fatih Akin | in cooperation with the "Turkish Community Central Hesse" | in German and Turkish | with German and Turkish surtitles

The young Turkish woman Sibel persuades the life-scarred loner Cahit into a sham marriage in order to escape from her strict parental home. A fateful relationship develops between two outsiders.
In 2008, the composer Ludger Vollmer created a masterpiece of recent operatic history based on the award-winning feature film by Fatih Akin. In order to authentically present facets of German-Turkish culture, Vollmer enriches the traditional orchestra with classical Turkish instruments. The work, which was awarded the European Tolerance Prize, will be performed in German and Turkish.
