oor flower girl Eliza Doolittle, through her 'interesting' dialect, becomes the subject of an obscure bet by eccentric phonetics professor Henry Higgins. He claims to Colonel Pickering that he can turn this 'gutter plant' into a lady of the world in just six months. Eliza has a hard time language training with Higgins, who hurts her every day with his arrogance. But when Eliza confidently wants to go her own way after passing the 'test', the inveterate bachelor has to admit: I'm used to her face.

My Fair Lady , based on George Bernard Shaw's comedy Pygmalion, is one of the most popular musicals today. However, composers such as Leonard Bernstein and Cole Porter initially failed when it came to adapting the ironic society comedy for music theatre. The Viennese Frederick Loewe first managed the impossible in 1956 together with the librettist Alan Jay Lerner. With 2,717 performances, My Fair Lady ran longer than any musical play on Broadway before it, and its tunes – not least thanks to the film adaptation with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison – went around the world and became evergreens.
